The Dolmabahçe Palace is an unusual mix of different European architectural styles and was built between 1843-1856 by Karabet Balyan, the private architect of Sultan Abdulmecid.
This palace has three stores and shows a symmetrical plan. It contains almost 300 rooms and 43 halls. Over the decades, the palace resisted to the flow of time and retained its original decorations, furniture, as well as the silk carpets and drapes.
At its time, they say it beat all other palaces in the world in luxury and splendor.
BEZM-İ ALEM VALİDE SULTAN MOSQUE
The mosque is also known as the Dolmabahce mosque, it is a few minutes walk from Kabatas tram station, and the aforementioned Dolmabahçe palace. The mosque was built in the late 19th century by Baylan, the same architect of the palace and was first funded by Bezm-i Alem Valide Sultan. After she died, Sultan Abdülmecid, her son, continued to promote the construction of the mosque. After the conclusion of the works in 1855, it was opened for prayer services.
