About this experience
Live one of the most iconic London experiences! Join this tour and follow the Queen’s Guard around St. James’s Park during the legendary Changing of the Guard!
While other tourists start to jostle in front of Buckingham Palace, our Changing of the Guard Tour will take you away from the masses and over to St. James Palace to observe the guards preparing to make their iconic march.
Believe it or not, it’s not just a spectacle: these are authentic soldiers with real weapons, doing their actual job: protecting the Palace. Our professional local guide will tell you everything about what their duties include and the importance of their highly-symbolic uniforms.
As they leave, we will walk along their march (no, you don’t get to wear the costume), then move over to a special spot near the Wellington Barracks, home to some of the Foot Guard’s Bands, that allow us to get as close as possible to the scene. In contrast to most of Changing of the Guard tours, we don’t stop here. Instead, we will walk across St. James’s Park and discover the history of this royal green space which is among the most important of the green spaces that cover approximately 47% of greater London.
After arriving at Horse Guards Parade, we will watch the equally-impressive, but often neglected Changing of the Queen’s Life Guard, which features mounted, armor-clad soldiers and their immaculately groomed horses.

Additional Information
Please note that if you book your tour on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday, you’ll experience the change of the Household Cavalry.
The Changing of the Guard is subject to changes in date, time and cancellation at the discretion of British authorities. Cancellation due to bad weather is not announced before the morning of the ceremony. When this occurs, customers will still see a ‘wet change’ during which the guards march but without the usual music or parade.
Please note that the changing of the guard schedule may change and on different dates we will see either footguards or horseguards.
