About this experience

If you like history you can't miss this tour: the only one focused on Malta’s British history.

During this unique tour, we will step into history to understand why the British came to Malta, what happened when they left (and why they did it).

We will start our voyage through history in Vittoriosa, where we will see the fortifications which were built by the Knights and were later used by the British during the war.

We will go underground to visit the labyrinthic Air Raid shelters to immerse ourselves in what is remembered as the Second Great Siege of Malta. These subterranean bomb shelters were excavated in the solid rock and were extended as the war progressed.

After a short stroll through Vittoriosa, we will move to Valletta by bus. Then we will cross the city to reach Barrakka Garden which offers a magnificent view of the Grand Harbour (the largest natural harbor of the Mediterranean Sea). The harbor was a British military headquarters and the main reason why Malta came into play as soon as Italy declared war on the Allied forces.

Walking down the narrow streets of Valletta, we will reach the Palace which was occupied by Napoleon Bonaparte. We will also see the Queen Victoria’s statue and the ruins of the Royal Opera House which was bombed at the peak of the war Malta.

Then it will be time for a light lunch. Afterward, we will come down to the lower level of Valletta to the Malta War Museum. The museum itself is inside Fort St. Elmo, an old defensive system built by the Knights which was later transformed to serve the British military purpose. Among the several interesting exhibits, here we will find the fuselage of one of the fabled Gloster Gladiators and well as the E-boat (human torpedo).

After some free time for a lunch break, we will walk to the lower level of Valletta to the Malta War Museum. The museum itself is situated at Fort St. Elmo, an original defensive system built by the Knights which also was modified to serve the British military purpose. Among the numerous exhibits are the fuselage of one of the legendary Gloster Gladiators and well as the E-boat (human torpedo).
