Food and wine tasting experience
Milan’s ancient canals
About this experience
Do you know how Milanese people spend their free time? Walking along the picturesque canals which go deep in the heart of their city!
Discover the beautiful Navigli and meet the true soul of Milan.
Constructed between the 12th and 16th centuries, the Navigli are navigable man-made canals connecting the core parts of Milan, serving (at the time) as a defense, irrigation, and transportation system. Most of the canals were covered over in the '30s, and the remaining one is now the wonderful backdrop for one of Milan’s most cool areas. The festive mood, lively music, and canal reflections in the golden hours of sunset make this an irresistible place for an extra-special event.
You will meet our friendly local guide and begin the night with a glass of wine near the Naviglio Grande, the oldest one and the heart of the Milanese movida. Your lovely guide will lead you on a charming walk through the area, sharing interesting anecdotes from the past and present. Topics of conversation will cover from what Leonardo da Vinci and Napoleon had to do with this district, to where to get the best Risotto Alla Milanese is made, according to the original recipe.
During this experience, we will stop by an elegant enoteca (wine bar), for more delicate wine paired with local cheeses and salami. Here, everything is hand-selected from some of the finest variety available. The bar staff and your guide will tell you the story of this Italian specialties, how they are made and how the winemaking process works.
We will continue our exploration, passing by art studios, hip designer shops, vintage bookstores, cool bars and more as the light begins to fade and the locals start to wander around.
The air will be filled with music, laughter, and conversation among friends, we’ll head to our last stop for a typical aperitivo. An aperitivo in Italy means almost anything: from a light drink with some nuts and olives to a complete finger food dinner. We will go for the latter here!
After the end of the tour, our guide will be glad to share some dinner advise: in the area and in the rest of the city. But, be prepared: you may not have room for dinner after all that food and wine!
