About this experience
Do you have ever wondered what the Vatican looks like at night?
Well, we are here to answer you!
This tour lets you experience the best of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel in the evening, avoiding the noisy crowds and the unbearable mid-day sun.
What are you waiting for?
The Vatican Museums
In recent times the Vatican has started opening its doors on Friday evenings, giving the chance to explore the Pope’s museums after the sunset. Even the ones who have been here before will find something unique about exploring the Vatican courts and collection under the night sky.
In order to protect the artworks, the Vatican usually keeps the gallery lighting quite low, but on those special nights, you can see these pieces illuminated as never before.
Secondly, the museums are less crowded at these hours and the temperatures are much more convenient during the evening. You will see the abundance of works, enjoy the details and walk into the history of this charming place.
If you love art or philosophy, you probably know the Raphael’s “School of Athens”, but did you know that the artwork can be found in Vatican Museums? This world-famous work is but one wall in a set of 4 rooms that were painted by Raphael and his pupils, approximately the same time Michelangelo was working on the Sistine Chapel. Come with us inside this delightful part of the Vatican that was once the meeting area of Julius II and learn about the particular use of each room and find out how they were turned into stables during the sack of Rome in 1527.
Showing the major works by Michelangelo, the Sistine Chapel is absolutely a must-see for anyone visiting the Vatican and Rome. Our friendly & professional guide will explain every detail of this extraordinary vault. You will discover why Pope Sixtus IV had the chapel redesigned, renovated and turned into his own secret sanctuary. You will understand how he sought out the best artists of the time to decorate it, only to be surpassed by his nephew Pope Julius II a few years later. You will listen to stories about the Michelangelo’s strained relationship with the latter, why he retreated to Florence halfway through painting the ceiling, and how he got his own vengeance on the Pope.
