St. Peter’s Basilica guided tour and Dome climbing experience
About this experience
Join our guided tour and skip all the long lines, going straight inside and climbing up its dome!
St. Peter’s Basilica is the largest church in the world and its Dome is one of the tallest domes in the world. Various masters of the Renaissance contributed to realize this architecture miracle, but the final design came from Michelangelo Buonarroti himself, inspired by the ancient structure of the Pantheon in Rome. The crucifix on the top of the dome is considered relics of the True Cross, making it the most important church in Christendom.
You will meet your friendly guide at the entrance and they will take you into the dome elevator. You will be able to bypass the first section and go straight to the first viewing platform of the dome.
From here you can admire the whole interiors of St. Peter’s Basilica from above. Many tourists don’t know about this level, so you will be among the few who have admired the Basilica from here.
Looking down, you will observe the top of Bernini’s marvellous canopy, called St. Peter's Baldachin, the biggest piece of bronze in the world.
Looking up, you will see the magnificent figure of God inside the lantern, and the light flowing through Michelangelo’s windows enlightening the blue and gold mosaics on the walls.
Your guide will show you everything valuable around here and translate the old Latin inscriptions and symbols along the walls, to get you a better understanding of the historical context.
Then you will have some free time to climb to the Dome, i.e. the highest point in the center of Rome for an amazing 360-degree view of the Vatican City and beyond.
From the panoramic spot, you will have all the Rome’s iconic landmarks before your eyes, including the Papal Gardens, Colosseum, Pantheon and Villa Borghese.
Don't miss this unique chance! Book the best tour of St. Peter's Basilica and admire Rome.
