About this experience
You can't visit Catania without enjoying the amazing street food available at all hours night and day and part of the true soul of the town.
The street food of Catania is a serious matter for locals.
The excellent quality of the fresh produce, combined with centuries of culinary tradition, has made Catania a must for all gourmets and food lovers!
Our carefully designed walking tour will give you a historical overview of the old town, whilst taking you to taste some of its culinary delights!
Our friendly local guide will meet you in Piazza Duomo, a masterpiece of Sicilian Baroque protected by UNESCO, where we are going to visit the Cathedral.
From there we will reach the quaint fish market, better known as "la pescheria", where we will try some local cheeses, olives and some exquisiteness in oil.
If you like some fish instead of meat, at the pescheria you find the best mixed fried fish around: everything is clearly ultra fresh.
Then we will take via Crociferi, well-known for its churches and its significance during the procession for the Festa of Sant'Agata, the patron saint of Catania.
Walking down via Etnea, the main street of Catania, we will reach Piazza Stesicoro and its Roman amphitheater discovered in the early twentieth century.
We will then hit the Bar Savia, which has the best arancini in Catania, while at the Bakery Pacini the much-loved cipollina is waiting for you (a specialty of Catania made with puff pastry, tomato, onion, mozzarella, and ham).
We will then cross "la Fiera" - as is the local name for the largest market of the city - to meet the most excellent kiosk of Catania: the Chiosco Costa.
Here you will try the typical fizzy drink made from fresh Selz and syrups: really iconic for every Sicilian guy!
Then we are going to visit the port area, where a mixed plate of meat, horse-meat meatballs barbecued on hot coals, and the legendary "cipollata" (spring onions wrapped with bacon) will be waiting for us!
This culinary adventure will not be complete without tasting the local sweets: during winter time we will eat the legendary cannolo with ricotta, cassatella (local ricotta sweet) and an almond based pastry. On summer, we will prefer a fresh Sicilian granita.
Before the tour ends, our local guide will give you the card "The streets of the elephant" as a reminder of the culinary stops we just did, with all the different foods enjoyed on the streets of Catania.
The elephant is the symbol of our beautiful town and we want you to remember this day and the flavors of our region!
