About this experience

Outdoors visit with a multilingual tourist guide of the area between Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge, passing by some special places: Teatro la Fenice, Scala del Bovolo, Campo S.Angelo and Rialto
Bridge. The tour does NOT include the explanation of the Piazza San Marco. At a few steps from the meeting place, St. Luca Square the guide will take the clients to Campo San Beneto to admire the famous Palazzo Fortuny.
Once owned by the Pesaro family, this large Gothic palazzo was transformed by Mariano Fortuny into his own atelier of photography, stage-design, textile-design and painting. The building retains the rooms and structures created by Fortuny, together with tapestries and collections. The working environment of Mariano Fortuny is represented through precious wall-hangings, paintings
and the famous lamps – all objects that testify to the artist’s inspiration and still give count of his eclectic
work and of his presence on the intellectual and artistic scene at the turn of the 19th century. The Fortuny
Museum was donated to the city in 1956 by Henriette, Mariano’s widow. The collections within the
museum comprise an extensive number of pieces and materials which reflect the various fields investigated
in the artist’s work.
The tour then proceeds to Campo San Fantin, where the church of San Fantin and the world famous La
Fenice Opera House stand and to Manin square to admire the unusual staircase of Palazzo Contarini del
Bovolo next to the square, built in the XVth century. The architectural structure is based on a cylindrical
construction open on the outside, and an arcade which rises in spiral form.
After the walking tour a 30 minute gondola (up to 6 people per gondola) ride will follow along narrow
canals and a small portion of the Grand Canal. The gondola ride does not include any explanation.
